Welcome to Gotha Middle School!

Gotha Update 4/22/2024

Monica Emery

Hello Gotha Families!

I wanted to start with a huge shout to three very dedicated Gotha moms who spent the weekend laboring over a quite significant campus courtyard improvement.  Students and staff will see it tomorrow and pictures will be posted on Facebook after the reveal.  We certainly have a new Gotha-rific WOW factor thanks to Jennifer Julian, Karissa Martin and TeShondra Abner.  THANK YOU!!

Congratulations to Kaique Pereira.  Kaique is this week’s Cambridge Learner Attribute Student of the Week.   Ms. Bonilla nominated Kaique for being ENGAGED.  He accepts challenges and can often be seen helping the paraprofessionals in his classroom.  Congratulations

It’s almost LipDub time!  For those of you new to Gotha, every year we film a school wide video to celebrate the end of the school year.  Our 8th grade students plan and star in this lip syncing phenomenon with the rest of the school in supporting roles!  We have put together a wish list of props should anyone want to donate.  If you haven't seen our Lipdub from last year, check it out here -  Another Gotha Day

In partnership with Orange County Public Schools, the Orange County Department of Health is hosting a free immunization event on May 4th at Liberty Middle School.  This is a great opportunity for parents of our rising 7th graders who will need the Tdap immunization to attend school this upcoming school year. Our registrar, Ms. Payne, can assist with a copy of birth certificate and/or current shot record if needed.

LITERACY FOCUS OF THE WEEK
Summer is coming and the local branches of the Orange County Library have a number of FREE classes and events all summer long!  Check out their June calendar for Windermere, Winter Garden and West Oaks .

CODE OF CONDUCT REMINDER
OCPS Code of Student Conduct
Gotha School Wide Discipline Plan
We have been having issues with students being late to class, particularly in the afternoon.  I have been stressing to them the importance of getting to class on time and ending the year as strongly as it started, focused on learning and being engaged.   We have started advising the students that tardy sweeps will be occurring again in the coming days.  Students who are late to class during a tardy sweep passing period will have automatic Wednesday detention.  Please talk to your child about the importance of being punctual.

THIS WEEK AT THE SCHOOL
For those of you new to Gotha, every Friday between Spring Break and the end of the school year is ALOHA Friday as we countdown to Summer Break!  Encourage your student to wear their favorite Hawaiian or vacation gear!  Just FIVE more Fridays in the school year!

4/22
4/23 - Spirit Night 4pm- 8pm @ Tropical Smoothie Cafe - Ocoee
4/24 - Gotha Spirit Day
4/25
4/26 - ALOHA Fri-yay - just 5 Fridays left in the school year!

For your planning purposes, our Spring musical Nemo Jr., is coming up quickly on May 2nd, 3rd and 4th.  Be on the lookout for ticket information!  Proceeds from ticket sales go directly to our theater program.

Please contact the school if you have any questions at all.  If your student is late to school, remember that they must be signed in at the front desk after 9:40.  Please make sure your student is getting to school on time.  Have a great week.  Help your student make choices that are confident, responsible, reflective, innovative and engaged.  As always, IT’S A GREAT DAY TO BE A GRIZZLY!
