Welcome to Gotha Middle School!

Gotha Update 4/15/2024

Monica Emery

Hello Gotha Families!

I can’t believe we are already three weeks into this final quarter of the school year!  Please make sure you are checking Skyward Family Access for your student’s current grades and the potential for any missing assignments.

Congratulations to Kathryn Sharrer.  Kathryn is this week’s Cambridge Learner Attribute Student of the Week.   I nominated Kathryn for being ENGAGED.  She has been focused on learning and following along with the attributes since the very first day of school, and I’m very proud of her first year of middle school.

Thank you to the families who completed the family survey.  We have reached our percentage goals for students, staff and families.

It’s almost LipDub time!  For those of you new to Gotha, every year we film a school wide video to celebrate the end of the school year.  Our 8th grade students plan and star in this lip syncing phenomenon with the rest of the school in supporting roles!  We have put together a wish list of props should anyone want to donate.  If you haven't seen our Lipdub from last year, check it out here -  Another Gotha Day!

Beginning in the school year 2024-2025, parents or guardians will be asked to complete the School Bus Registration form if they expect a bus seat to be available for their child. The School Bus Rider Registration form will be available to parents, schools, and Student Enrollment staff by simply accessing the Skyward portal. If a parent cannot access Skyward, the form can be printed out for completion here at the school.  Stay tuned for more information.

The YMCA offers a summer camp to middle school students at no cost to families June 3rd through July 25th.  The camp will be held at Southwest Middle School and a bus will be provided to transport kids from Gotha to Southwest and back to Gotha each day.  Parents must sign students up each week.  Flyers are available at our After School YMCA program, our front office and on our website.

LITERACY FOCUS OF THE WEEK
Testing season is upon us and this causes some stress for some students.  Talk to your student about how they are feeling about the upcoming assessments and if they are feeling anxious, here are some test taking strategies you can discuss with them to help them feel prepared.

CODE OF CONDUCT REMINDER
OCPS Code of Student Conduct
Gotha School Wide Discipline Plan
We have been seeing more and more students late to class, particularly in the afternoon.  I have been stressing to them the importance of getting to class on time and ending the year as strongly as it started, focused on learning and being engaged.   We have started advising the students that tardy sweeps will be occurring in the coming days.  Students who are late to class during a tardy sweep passing period will have automatic Wednesday detention.  Please talk to your child about the important of being punctual.

THIS WEEK AT THE SCHOOL
For those of you new to Gotha, every Friday between Spring Break and the end of the school year is ALOHA Friday as we countdown to Summer Break!  Encourage your student to wear their favorite Hawaiian or vacation gear!

4/15 -
4/16 -
4/17 -
4/18 - Championship Track Meet @ 6:00 Lake Buena Vista HS
4/19 - ALOHA Friday - just SIX Fridays left in this school year!
SUNDAY 4/21 - Campus Beautification @ 5:00pm

Please contact the school if you have any questions at all.  If your student is late to school, remember that they must be signed in at the front desk after 9:40.  Please make sure your student is getting to school on time.  Have a great week.  Help your student make choices that are confident, responsible, reflective, innovative and engaged.  As always, IT’S A GREAT DAY TO BE A GRIZZLY!
